Week 9 Player Update & Prize Winners – 2026 Summer of Plunder

The Summer of Plunder has come to an end! An epic campaign of more than 300 players and nearly 2000 games logged from around the world. The Bourbon alliance squeaked out a win on the campaign map, and you can see the final results of that contest here.

Now we check in for final messages from our commanders, give away all the final prizes, and enjoy the last round of pictures from the 2026 Summer of Plunder campaign.

Spanish Commander Update

Spanish Faction Divider banner for Blood & Plunder

¡Saludos desde Santiago de Cuba!

As we finished the evacuation from Havana to Santiago de Cuba news from Europe arrived. Victory for the Bourbon Alliance! Well done my brave soldados, once again you have proven that you are the most ruthless fighting force in the new world. Negotiations are happening now in Europe and I am confident that the terms will be quite favorable to us.

Now for the end of campaign prizes, The player with the most overall Spanish points is Montgomery Montague III. They were instrumental for the successful raids and defenses of Armada de Domingo. Thank you and you will receive a painted commander from me very soon. The most overall points from an Oak & Iron player comes from once again Montgomery Montague III.  Fighting for the sea lanes this year was a key component of our victory. Our dockyards will send you reinforcements soon.

As for the best small action fighter with the most port royal points during the campaign is Frank Palocyi. They demonstrated brilliant hand to hand fighting in the closing weeks and will receive a new commander model. For the final week the random draw for people who played the objective goes to Martin Sheaffer. You will be getting reinforcements of your choice soon. And finally, the best ambush picture goes to Jeremy Earl DeBary for these Milicianos Indios laying in ambush below.

Thanks for allowing me to be your commander once again. ¡Santiago!

Garrett Swader

Now here’s a word from my second in command.

Compatriotas,

Felicidades on the campaign! Spanish valor carried the day, and thanks to our efforts, King Phillip is on the throne and our French and Native allies hold territories rightfully theirs. While we lost Havana, we still have an outpost on the South of Cuba, and the entire Eastern Antilles. In peace talks, we hope to regain our former capital, but until such time, I write from Puerto Rico, with my dice at the ready and the wind at my back.

Portuguese support in Quebec

This victory was the fruit of our combined efforts, but some made notable contributions. Montgomery Montague III, logged more Spanish Oak and Iron games than anyone else! Health and fortune to the Montague dynasty! I must also thank Discord users Joe Johndeere, Nikku, Jarlcheological, and Slowriot305 for their participation. From chatting, list building advice, hobbying questions, and strategic discussions, everyone who joined in made the campaign that much more enjoyable. Of course, I must also praise Five Point Corsarios, who was pleasant and effective. His work was excellent, and valued well given his lack of Fast Reload, Marksmen, and inability to take a pistol. He is a Swordsman, after all, which is known to carry the day. We are all very grateful to this Discord user in particular.

Jokes aside, we are deeply appreciative to every one of you who played for and against Spain this year! Whether you joined in the first week of April, or the last week of July, we were happy to call you compañero. Muchas gracias, and we’ll see you next year!

Firmado,

Teniente Alejandro de Reyes y Moncada

British Commander Update

English Faction Divider banner for Blood & Plunder

Huzzah to another Summer of Plunder and a great big thank you to all the players we mustered together this year! It was fantastic seeing familiar names, as well as learning some new ones! This year didn’t end how we’d have liked it to go, but it was a lot of fun seeing our players working together with other nations! It took a little getting used to, but it ended up being a very engaging experience.

I will be working with Leftenant Hilliker to mail out prizes in the next couple weeks, so keep an eye out for a Discord DM/Messenger PM if you made rank! Those players will be receiving a set of exclusive tokens, a Admiral Faulk card, a Leftenant Hilliker card, and an English 2026 sticker! The 2 winners of the painted commanders will also be announced shortly!

Greetings fellow British commanders!  “Leftenant” Hilliker here.  It has been a pleasure acting as one of your two commanders this year.  I have loved seeing the creativity come out with the weekly requests.  Thank you for your photos of your toast to SoP 26’.  Here’s to another fun year in the books!

French Commander Update

French Faction Divider banner for Blood & Plunder
Melissa S leads the convoy back to our homeland! We have amazing news for King Louis – we have won Queen Anne’s War!!

Bust out the baguettes! Put on your finest furs! Grab your best wine! A toast to YOU, the best group of players a commander could ask for and THE NEW SUMMER OF PLUNDER CHAMPIONS! Of course, I would be remiss if I didn’t also congratulate our great alliance partners in the Natives and Spanish. Thank you all for your strategy and hard (well… more like fun) work!

Chaos in Québec, as Adam H repeals one last anti-bourbon effort! This year’s map place a huge emphasis on ‘locations of interest’ and our capital was the center of it all! Amazing work defending it this year!

The French are FINALLY champions. One last time I have to thank you for your dedication to our game plan. Over the past 9 weeks I believe we hit every single intended target, and only mixed up the orders of those targets a minor sliver of those times (and that’s on me for bad book keeping). You gave the Sun King’s leadership your trust, and thanks to your trust we can return to France with news of GREAT VICTORY!

Kolin V ushers troops into warmer waters. I loved how this year’s campaign had connected ports and made areas of the map feel distinct from one another. What did you like about this year’s campaign?

It’s been a true honor working alongside Gareth over these past two years to serve this player base. As your leaders we have experienced the highest of highs (for me, seeing players embrace sea shanties and collaborating with Gareth on this year’s miniature surprise) and lowest of lows (it’s games, so never that low). We did some sneaky maneuvering last year that resulted in a pretty awful finish, but it was super sweet to come back this year with determination to get France over the SoP hump! To the guys over at Blood & Pigment – thank you for having me and for putting in grueling hours to bring fun to our summers. It’s been a blast!

  • Admiral/Governor Arpke
Dr. D secures our northerly seas! I don’t know about you, but this campaign really felt like a renascence year for Oak & Iron! Loved seeing everyone involvement playing the miniature of miniature games.

Letter from l’intendant:

Bonjour mes amis, c’est moi, Henri Le Roux.  The war has come to a conclusion, and peace is being negotiated.  Through your valiant efforts, and those of our great allies, we attained victory for House Bourbon.  Mais in the final days of the war, l’Anglo-Dutch alliance managed to seize that Spanish jewel, Havana, in a last effort to use it to gain favourable terms.  I am sure our glorieux Roi-Soleil will negotiate it back for his grandson, formerly Philippe d’Anjou, but now thanks to your great efforts Rey Felipe V!

Mais la victoire is bitter sweet.  With the conclusion of hostilities, le gouverneur et moi must return to France.  Our term complete, we have been summoned back to Paris, and a new gouverneur et intendant will be sent to take our place.  Merci, mes amis, for two exceptional years.  May our paths cross again, your services to Nouvelle-France will not be forgotten.

Adieu, mes amis, and take care.

Vive le roi!  Vive la France! ⚜️

Letter from l’amiral:

To every commander of a vessel and leader of a squadron in the allied fleet, my heartfelt thanks. In this conflict, we have seen France truly rise to be the naval power the modern age demands, matching the excellence of our armies. And this is through the efforts of all of you.

To have Oak & Iron play its own unique role in the game this year, and to have it very nearly reach the number-one most played French faction, is very exciting to me. I think that the role sea-lanes played in the grand game was engagingly unique, too: each week we had to guess our opponent’s plans, judging their past actions, and weigh the advantages we could gain against the advantages we could deny them. But without the tremendous enthusiasm and play of all of you, we could not bring our plan to fruition—and so, once again, you have my thanks.

Dutch Commander Update

Dutch Faction Divider banner for Blood & Plunder

Lt. Commander Snix:
Geachte Commandanten

Gentlemen, it’s been a pleasure. We gave them hell and delivered measured Dutch punishment whenever we had the honor of command. We enjoyed the finest of smoked meats from Montreal for our efforts, smoked excellent cuban cigars, and generally feasted upon the fruits of our mercantile efforts. A round of applause for our allies as well, lads, as without friends as close as they were we’d need better enemies!

But seriously, another great SoP in the books and I’m incredibly thankful for being able to be a part of it. Thanks for all the hard work and dedication on the part of the organizers and thank you my loyal Dutchmen for your hard work, constant in depth math work (looking at you Ben), and commitment to whatever hare brained scheme leadership cooked up. We had fun! And that’s all that I personally really wanted.

Now we take a moment to appreciate some notable Dutch players:
To our top scoring player, Barbarossa! Well done. You edged out the second place player, the honorable Admiral Smeerlap, by ONE point! Great job to you both and thank you for your commitment to the cause!
Our top 5 for those wondering:
Barbarossa (Brian Babcock)
Admiral Smeerlap
David Sherrange
Scarlitwidow
Joseph Kananowicz

Special thanks goes out to our Order of the Mushroom players:
Benthebest5, First Master Portobello of the Order of the Mushroom
Brent D. (Admiral Kaaskop), Second Master of the Order of the Mushroom

You all stepped up and came through for your faction and deserved special recognition. Thanks guys! Wouldn’t have been such a good season without your help.

Now for some pics:

Barbarossa takes on a ghost Galleon and what appears to be an absolute mess of a brawl.
Wallie Desruisseaux appears to have left it all on the line here in a bid for Nassau. Well done sir.
Johnnie Gray having some good honest fun on a great looking table:
Joseph Kananowicz deboarding in a cinematic locale. Hopefully they earned some plunder this battle!

We’ll get em next year.

Hoog achtend,
C. Maassenn.

Pirates Commander Update

Pirate Faction Divider banner for Blood & Plunder

The final battles of our Summer of Plunder campaign have come to an end. The guns have fallen silent, and as the smoke clears, we can look back on a campaign filled with friendly rivalries, daring plans, and unforgettable moments.

These past nine weeks have been glorious fun. I am grateful to every Pirate player who joined the planning sessions, attended our pirate movie nights, played countless games, and kept the conversations going on Discord. It was a campaign of bold strategies, glorious victories, and a few losses that we were quick to blame on our allies.

The Pirates entered the final week with daring ambitions, spreading our forces across the Caribbean and beyond. We divided our strength between the sieges of Havana and Quebec, while launching an aggressive expedition toward Cape Canaveral and supporting the fighting around Fort Detroit.

We took Havana and Fort Detroit, and we drove the enemy from Cape Canaveral. Alas, the French and their allies did manage to hold onto Quebec. In the end, the French, Spanish, and Native forces emerged victorious in the campaign. The British, Dutch, and Pirate fleets fought hard, but when the final tally was counted, we found ourselves 20 points behind our rivals.

I’d like to take a moment to acknowledge our top pirate players.

Campaign Stats

Campaign Faction Report

Well, we almost did it. There was one faction that didn’t get played over the course of this year’s Summer of Plunder. The Miskito Zambo were the only faction to get 0 plays. And they are a really great faction! The change in campaign rules discouraged playing as Unaligned/Minor Power factions, so those factions were a bit neglected.

But you still owe it to yourself to check out the awesome Miskito Zambo faction for some powerful, night raiding, sneaky Native/Africans! Check out this great faction review on Dead Man’s Chest for an intro to the faction.

Top Blood & Plunder factions included:

  • Golden Age Pirates
  • Flying Gang
  • French Buccaneers
  • British Militia
  • British Royal Navy
  • Spanish Militia
  • Wabanaki
  • British Privateers
  • Dutch Navy
  • Brethren of the Coast
  • Dutch North American Militia

Low performers included many of the the Legendary Factions (I’m guessing size of game discourages people from playing the highest cost commanders).

Greg P’s Blackbeard

The French were dominant in Oak & Iron this year!

  • French – 74 games
  • Spanish – 38 games
  • English – 34 games
  • Pirates – 33 games
  • Dutch – 26 games
  • Natives – 8 games

  • English – 44 games
  • Spanish- 41 games
  • Dutch – 31 games
  • Natives – 14 games
  • Maroons/Unaligned – 11 games

Team & Game Stats

We almost got to that 2000 game mark! A total of 1993 games logged this year makes this the biggest Summer of Plunder ever!

This year the Pirates played the most games, beating out the English and French by a little bit!

  • Pirates – 427
  • British – 399
  • French – 376
  • Spanish – 296
  • Dutch – 231
  • Natives – 206

The French had a noticeable uptick in game count this year! Kyle and Gareth did a great job leading up the French team.

Oak & Iron

Our Oak & Iron games were up this year, about 22% over last year at about 228 games. We saw not just the starter ships on the board, but lots of big bad boys out there with weight of fire doing its work.

Week 9 Objectives

The final week’s objectives were all nation specific, most of them focusing on something unique about their nation. Here are some pictures from players from each nation this week.

Natives

The Natives’ Objective was to focus on using firearms instead of bows during this final week.

Spanish

The Spanish objectives focused on leaning into their Ambush and Lay in Wait rules.

French

The French objectives focused on their superior marksmanship in Blood & Plunder and Oak & Iron and their aggressive melee ability in Port Royal.

Dutch

The Dutch objectives focused on their focus on commerce and merchants.

Pirates

The final pirate objectives focused on Fire and Explosives!

English

The final British objectives focused on using artillery in different ways.

Woodes Rogers vs Charles Vane Scenario

The final scenario in the Organized Play kit was an ambitious 6 player sea battle featuring a blockade, a fireship, and some desperate pirates. Several groups played some variation on this scenario this week.

The Lethbridge crew put this game on (or something like it )at a grand scale and it looks like things got hot!

More games that appear to be based on this scenario:

Tabletop Simulator Escalation League

William O (Dred) did the community a great service by running an escalation league on Tabletop Simulator this year! If you were able to participate in that part of the campaign, make sure you thank for his excellent service.

Ben S took the top spot and some extra prizes were awarded to the top 4 players.

There were some epic games this week! Check out some of these sessions.

Final Thoughts on Summer of Plunder 2026

Well, that’s a wrap on this year’s Summer of Plunder! Thank you all for being an awesome gaming community and being part oft his campaign this year.

We tried some new things this year, and some seemed like they worked really well and some were good learning experiences. We’ll be sending out a post-campaign survey in the coming week or so and we’d love to hear back from you!

Photo from Nate H

I personally hope you all enjoyed the minis and scenarios in the Organized Play Kit this year. We dialed that up and I hope it was enjoyed.

This was the largest Summer of Plunder ever, with nearly 2000 games logged and more than 325 different players participating this year! Every year it grows a little.

A huge thanks to Firelock Games for letting us run this campaign every year and providing the Organized Play Kit and significant prize support.

Thank you to Daniel Wray for all his creativity and work making the campaign map system work this year! He did amazing work. And to Jason Klotz for his support and many hours of work and support (in spite of “not being involved” this year).

Thanks to Dan Carlson for helping out so much with the prize organization and distribution. It gets to be a bigger job every year!

Thanks to all the generous sponsors and all our supporters on Patreon that help fund this venture every year. It’s not cheap and the financial support is appreciated.

Thank you to Dr. D for donating a full set of painted minis from the Summer of Plunder kit! That’s a lot of time and work poured into minis to give away.

Thank you to all the national commanders and 2nds for all their time and efforts leading teams and stressing out over the campaign map: Garrett, Ash, Riley, Kyle, Derek, Ethan, Zac, Charlton, Anton, Ted, Kyle and Gareth. These guys put in a lot of extra effort to help everything run this year. By the way, if you want to grab some of the limited edition promo commander cards that each of these commanders made this year, you can request them here and we can probably fulfill at least 75% of demand.

Thank you all for being a great group of people. Best in the wargaming world! We got a lot of kind comments and encouraging messages through this year’s campaign and you were all a pleasure to work with and game with.

Photo from Paul P

The last big batch of prizes should be going out this weekend, but there will be a few stragglers. But everyone should receive their prizes by the end of August at the latest. I know the national Commanders are working on shipping out their prize goodies as well. But don’t be shy about checking if to make sure it was shipped if you haven’t seen anything by August 20th. Things occasionally slip through the cracks…

What’s Next?

The Summer of Plunder is finished, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t keep enjoying your gaming hobby. Keep the momentum going. Try to meet up with your local players regularly. Keep exploring your game! There’s still a couple great conventions this fall where you can jump into a friendly tournament. Good stuff happening in the Blood & Plunder/Firelock Games community.

Here are Blood & Pigment, we always enjoy ramping up our “regular content” again after the campaign is finished. We have a bunch of articles and projects mostly done that you should start seeing drop next week. More faction reviews (Dr. D has come on board as a regular writer!), some new minis to show off, the Rise of the Buccaneers Campaign videos to edit, some STL files to review. Lots of good stuff!

We plan to help coordinate the Secret Santa mini exchange again this year, so watch for that in early November. Then we have the return of the Great Pirate Paint Off again in the New Year, and we’ll be helping out with events again at Adepticon in the Spring. Then it will be time for Summer of Plunder again. The events never stop!
