Rise of the Boekaniers: Curaçao New Expansion Announcement

[APRIL 1ST JOKE POST]

Firelock pulled a fast one on us and is tweaking the direction of their upcoming Kickstarter (launching tomorrow) to focus more on the Dutch Buccaneers of the early 16th century.

Rise the Boekaniers: Curaçao

This book will focus on the different brave and financially aggressive captains sailing out the primary Dutch base in the Caribbean, Curaçao. Rumor has it this expansion will quickly be followed by Rise of the Boekaniers: Aruba, Rise of the Boekaniers: Bonaire, Rise of the Boekaniers: Sint Eustatius, Rise of the Boekaniers: Sint Maarten, and Rise of the Boekaniers: Saba. The timeline for release of these next expansions is not entirely clear but we have been assured it will be “soon.”

New Dutch Factions

Boasting multiple new factions, this expansion will look at the Dutch privateering trade in detail. You can expect factions like:

  • Early Dutch Privateers
  • Kind of Early Dutch Privateers
  • Medium Early Dutch Privateers
  • Medium Late Dutch Privateers
  • Late Dutch Privateers
  • The Last Dutch Privateers
  • The Lastest Dutch Privateers

All of these factions will be able to make the exciting choice between taking the Zeelanders or the West India Company special rules.

Included in our host of new commanders are some household names of some of the greats:

  • Du Kneynsberg

  • Man Met Pistool en Musket

These new units should help them start to catch up to the unit count of the English

New Dutch Ships

There will also be a few unique ships included, showcasing some of the innovative shipbuilding (and ship naming) the Dutch were participating in during the first half of the 16th century.

  • Provoked Cheesmaker
  • The Vigilant Lion
  • The Provoked Lion

Final Thoughts

The provoked lion will finally get its due and fill out their options within Blood & Plunder! The Firelock Games release schedule is tight this year, but we all know what “soon” means!

Final Final Real Thoughts

Happy April 1st. This may have been a bit too cruel, but it’s what I could think of before breakfast this morning. It’s all done in love. But for real, the Dutch will continue to get new and interesting content in the next several expansion coming out for Blood & Plunder, but it will probably not be on the scale of the larger nations working within the Caribbean and New World. As one of the developers for the game, I can guarantee to you that efforts are being made, books are being read, and notes are being taken! But we can’t change the fact that the Dutch were not as prevalent as other nations and there just isn’t as much to work with!

Please jump in on the Rise of the Buccaneers: Jamaica and Wave 2 Miniature Kickstarter launching tomorrow! Already over 1000 people waiting for launch!
