This is the first in a series of articles spotlighting players in the Blood & Plunder community. Please enjoy this written interview with Dexter Heide.
Hi Dexter, and thank you for giving us some of your time and participating in this interview. Please introduce yourself as a person and as “a “gamer.”
My name is Dexter Heide and I live in the great white North Canada! I have passion for playing table top games as well as creating terrain for them. My first interests were more around Dungeons and Dragons, Magic the gathering, Seven Sea’s, Battle Master, Heroes Quest, Axis & Allies, Shogun, Risk and of course good old Chess. This was my world until one by chance I ran across this game called Blood and Plunder!!
How long have you been playing Blood & Plunder and how did you get into the game?
I have been playing this game for about 1 year 2 months! So really I’m fairly new and I certainly picked a interesting time to get involved in organized tabletop gaming! But I was determined to bring this game life! I came across this game indirectly while searching for model ships just killing time on my phone in the waiting room while my son was getting some bloodwork done. My Facebook recommended I check out Firelock games page for Ships! I instantly fell in love with the Idea of this game!
What factions do you like to play?
I like all the factions very much! They all have their strengths and opportunities! But if I had to pick it would be between the English or Native factions.
Describe your local B&P community.
I was the first person in my city to play this game as far as I know! I have been mostly playing with my son but have some real interest in this game. As soon as the restrictions are cleared I have some demos planned at the local game stores as well as my basement which I have dubbed the Plunder Den!

Describe your Blood & Plunder collection.
I have amassed quite a large collection. I have ships and crews to represent all of the factions of the game, and I also have built as well as collected a lot of terrain to play on. I have been amassing fleet options al well for the Spanish, English, French and Native factions! I only recently completed my first Dutch ship but plan on growing them to fleet size as well.
What is your favorite ship and favorite unit?
This is a tough one! But I would say the Light Frigate is my current favorite! This may change when I complete the 6th Rate! And My favorite unit would have to be Sea Dogs!
Do you have a favorite Character or Commander?
My favorite commander? Well I have to say I have two! Captain Morgan for land battles and Piet Heyn for sea battles.
What is your favorite thing about Blood & Plunder?
My favorite thing about Blood & Plunder would probably have to be the mechanics of the game which make it quite unique and a lot of fun to play! The models are absolutely stunning and there is a lot room for my creative side to shine! I would also like to add the amazing community of fun and interesting people to share it with.
What would you like to see added to Blood & Plunder in the future?
I would like to see more expanded lines of Native factions as well as more ship options for all the factions even go as far as adding legendary ships! This could just be a kit to out existing ships but to give them special abilities or characteristics that would make them Legendary!
What’s currently on your painting desk or workbench?
Currently on my table I am working on 6th Rate Frigate, a unit of cavalry, unit European soldiers and a unit of Marins.

Is there anything else you would like to mention before we finish?
I absolutely can’t wait for the Raise the Black Kickstarter to arrive. I am most looking forward to expanding on my English faction with British regulars! And My North American Native forces.

Thank you for sharing with the Blood & Plunder community!
