This one has been in the vault for a while and we finally got it launched! In this video Garrett launches “Pigment Studios: East” while playing through one of the historical scenarios in the upcoming Rise of the Buccaneers: Jamaica book.

Battle of Ocho Rio

This scenario has the English attacking a resupplied fort on the north side of Jamaica. After their relatively easy landing on Jamaica in 1655, the Spanish resisted the English for years, relying on the mountainous terrain to conceal their outnumbered forces.

Cristóbal Arnaldo Issasi had been requesting reinforcements but when the finally arrived they were woefully unprepared for the realities of warfare on Jamaica. The English under D’Oyley’s leadership, were made aware of the reinforcements and launched an expedition from the south side of the island, bringing nearly 900 troops up to the north side of the island by sea.

The Spanish were holed up in a stockade fort with their supplies from Cuba. Seeing the English land, they tried to slow them down by laying an ambush. But the larger English force came on and assaulted the palisade, eventually breaking through the weak construction and capturing most of the Spanish reinforcements and all their supplies, striking a devastating blow against the long term resistance on Jamaica.

Battle of Ocho Rios Scenario

This scenario features two of the new factions in Rise of the Buccaneers: Jamaica. The Jamaica English Army Garrison, accompanied by a group of Cimaroons approaches the fort at Chorreras. The Spanish Guerillas have a chance to ambush the English coming up the road, then hightail it back to the fort.

Sound Issues

There was an issue with our sound recording, so the quality changes around the 1 hour mark, but all is still very intelligible. We did our best to boost and clean but it still sounds different than the first half of the game. The post game discussion at the end is nice and clean again.

Play Test Analysis

This was a playtest of the scenario, filmed early in 2026 so there is some good discussion on how this version of the scenario compares with an earlier version Garrett and Patrick played previously.

Our YouTube channel has been pretty quiet over the past few months with energy being mostly devoted to painting contest, Adepticon and Summer of Plunder so far this year. But we’re hoping to get some more videos out over the next few months. Getting “Pigment Studios East” up and running is part of our plan to increase our video content output.
