Comparison of Summer of Plunder by Year

The growth in participation year over year is striking, but 2025’s numbers are truly remarkable! Week 1 has seen a massive surge, jumping from 197 games last year to 345—an increase of nearly 75%. Even compared to 2023’s strong showing, this year’s start surpasses previous records by a wide margin.

This upward trend signals growing enthusiasm for the campaign, whether from new players joining in or veterans engaging even more. The momentum in 2025 suggests that this is almost guaranteed to be the biggest Summer of Plunder yet. If we maintain this pace, we’ll break 3,000 games by the end of the campaign!

Week 1 Objectives – “Scouting Party”

As always, the first week of the Summer of Plunder is geared towards recruitment and bringing people into the game. Each game system typically starts with a lower-point game that works well for a demo. This year we’ve added Port Royal to the list of games that you can play during the community event.

  • BLOOD & PLUNDER: Play a game with 100pts or fewer.
  • OAK & IRON: Play a 25-50 point game.
  • PORT ROYAL: Start a campaign with the Quake 1692 scenario in the Summer of Plunder OP kit or TheivesHarbor.com

Week 1 Campaign Map Level Combat Results

To no surprise, this first week was a week of chaos! Combat was brutal and widespread

Campaign Map Combat Results

Here are the outcomes for the week:

  • Antigua = The waters off Antigua erupted as Spanish warships launched a fierce assault on the English stronghold. Cannons roared and splinters of shattered hulls and smoke choked the battlefield. The English, caught off guard, scrambled to repel the attack, turning the tide just as the battle seemed lost. But both sides knew—this is likely only the beginning of a larger war for Caribbean dominance. They managed to defend Antigua and keep it. [English 3 : Spanish 2]
  • Boston = Boston became the focal point of a brutal multinational assault as Spanish, French, and Native forces converged on the English stronghold. The defenders fought fiercely, but the relentless pressure forced the garrison to withdraw, abandoning the city to chaos. In the aftermath, the French seized control, emerging victorious as the new rulers of Boston. [English 1 : French 4 : Natives 3 : Spanish 2]
  • Campeche = Pirates and Dutch forces pushed deep into the jungles surrounding Campeche, each seeking to claim the region for themselves. Skirmishes erupted in the dense foliage as ambushes and swift raids kept both sides locked in a relentless struggle. Yet, despite the relentless fighting, neither force could secure a decisive advantage. As the dust settled, Campeche remained contested, its fate hanging in the balance, and it remains Unaligned [Dutch 3 : Pirates 3 : Unaligned 1]
  • Cayman Isles = The Dutch secured an early foothold in the Cayman Isles through disciplined strategy. Revelling in their success, the Dutch were caught unaware. Under the cover of night, Pirates set the Dutch supply stores alight, throwing their encampment into chaos. By morning, their advantage had crumbled. With dwindling resources and the Dutch struggled to hold their ground as the Pirates pressed the offense, driving them back to the sea. Pirates claim the Cayman Isles. [Dutch 2 : Pirates 4 : Uunaligned 1]
  • Charles Town, SC = The Natives reclaimed their ancestral lands in Charleston, SC. returning them to their rightful stewards, marking a quiet but decisive restoration of their dominion in the region. The Natives take Charleston. [Natives 2 : Unaligned 1]
  • Jamaica = Under the guise of merchant vessels, the Spanish slipped into the nearby waters of Jamaica undetected, gathering intelligence and mapping English defenses. When their flotilla arrived and full assault came, it was precise and relentless, aimed at exploiting the weaknesses they had uncovered. But the English had prepared well, reinforcing their garrisons bolstered with fresh conscripts from Europe. As the battle erupted, both sides knew this was not just a test of strength but a contest of will. Despite their ruthless assault, the English will persevered and the Spaniards were repelled. [English 8 : Spanish 5]
  • Natchez = A small band of Pirates slipped into Natchez, scouting the terrain and laying the groundwork for a future raiding outpost. But their movements did not go unnoticed. English spies intercepted their plans, and within days, a swift counteraction was underway. Troops moved in to secure the region, aiming to stamp out the threat before it could take root. The English claim Natchez. [English 2 : Pirates 1 : Unaligned 1]
  • New York = The French launched a surgical strike on New York, overwhelming English defenses and securing a critical foothold in the north. With the city under their control, they cemented their presence in the region, shifting the balance of power and setting the stage for further expansion. [English 1 : French 2]
  • Panama = In a daring uprising, Native leaders rallied enslaved and oppressed peoples, igniting a rebellion that swept through Panama. Spanish colonial forces scrambled to contain the revolt, but the movement gained momentum, striking at key strongholds and dismantling Spanish control. Panama was liberated from the Spanish. [Natives 2 : Spanish 1]
  • Santo Domingo = Seeking to secure influence in Santo Domingo, the English extended an offer of supplies to the colonial residents, fostering goodwill and economic ties. Struggling with depravity and hard times, the process of provisions flowing in and agreements taking shape, the groundwork for a formal trading outpost was laid. Marking the start of a strategic foothold in the region, the English have secured Santo Domingo. [English 3 : Unaligned 1]
  • Vera Cruz = Dutch and Pirate forces clashed over Vera Cruz. The Dutch inflicted heavy casualties on the Pirates, but suffered a major loss when their command vessel fell into Pirate hands, its officers captured. As negotiations unfolded, the Pirates agreed to release the captured officers in exchange for vital supplies and weaponry. Lacking the manpower to hold the region, they mutually agreed to a temporary ceasefire and mutually relinquished their claim to Vera Cruz… for now. The future of the region is uncertain, but remains Unaligned for now. [Dutch 2 : Pirates 2 : Unaligned 1]

Raid Actions During Week 1

Commerce fueled the Caribbean, but raiding shaped its power struggles. Nations, buccaneers, and privateers struck to weaken rivals and seize resources.

In the campaign, Commanders can choose to target an enemy Nation and location, with success determined by a die roll. Outcomes shift Victory Points between the attacker and defender.

Defend actions reduce Raid success, and since Raids resolve before combat, securing a location early is key.

Raid Results for Week 1

In Week 1, 5 of the 6 Nations conducted Raids, and the Natives raided with a critical success result.

  • The English were triple-teamed by the French, Pirates, & Spanish on 3 different fronts. The English player community voted to defend Antigua, and so it applied a -2 to the roll, denying the Spanish from capturing a Victory Point.
  • The Dutch attempted to Raid the French but were foiled.
  • The Natives hit the Dutch on Saint Eustatius

Trade Actions During Week 1

Trade was the lifeblood of colonial economies, fueling alliances, rivalries, and power struggles among nations and private enterprises alike. As such, one of the 3 actions available to Commanders is a Trade Action.

Commerce and diplomacy go hand in hand—just as they did in the Caribbean during the late 17th and early 18th centuries. We’ve made some changes to the way Trade works in the campaign this year so that Trade now carries a diplomatic twist. When picking a Trade action, Commanders may select a Nation as a trade partner. If the chosen Nation reciprocates, both gain a bonus Victory Point.

While trade doesn’t shift territorial control, it can steadily build a Nation’s score.

We had 3 perfectly paired trades for Week 1:

  • Dutch – English
  • French – Spanish
  • Natives – Pirates

This means all 6 Nations will gain 2 Victory Points each.

With alliances now public, commanders must weigh cooperation against competition. Will Nations forge lasting partnerships or use trade for short-term gains?

Current Standings at the End of Week 1

At the end of Week 1, the were some surprising results. Several proposed alliances and non-aggression pacts are already tenuous.

  • Many people expected that the Dutch, as the winner of last year’s campaign, to have a target on their back. Shockingly, they survived Week 1 relatively unscathed. While their own attackers weren’t as successful as anticipated, there were zero attacks on their provinces and only a single raid targeted at their territory.

Current Location Ownership by Nation

There has been some shuffling of terrain locations and half of the Unaligned locations have been grabbed.

  • The Dutch neither gained nor lost ground.
  • The English treaded water. They lost Boston and New York but gained Natchez and Santo Domingo.
  • France pried Boston and New York away from the British.
  • The Natives gained the Unaligned Charleston and Panama from Spain.
  • The Pirates added the Cayman Isles.
  • The Spanish had a rough week. All 3 of their attacks were unsuccessful, their Raid was rebuffed, and
