Pirate Call to Arms!

Pirate Captains…we’re back!

Yes me hearties, your Pirate Commander and Lt. Commander are back…roles reversed, but with the same drive and enthusiasm for this year’s campaign. To all those landlubbers…the scourge of the Caribbean, Eastern Seaboard of the Americas, the African Coast, Indian Ocean, Baltic and Mediterranean seas have arrived! The Spanish showed to be a strong foe last year, but things have changed, and a New Year is upon us! We will not only beat the Spanish, but beat all flags! Shipmates, it’s time to take back what was wrongfully ours…and that’s everything!

By defending our capital based in Nassau, and our other three locations; Tortuga, St. Thomas and Rhode Island, we’ll be able to tactically attack and control the Spanish Main. With our combined coordination we’ll bring down the pain to those scared Spanish, the fleeing French, the disinterested Dutch and finally those limey British! The Natives…well, we’ll have to contend with them and maybe offer a better life against all flags…or not!

Our area of operations may look tough, but the weakened European powers are busy fighting with each other; which gives us a nice sail to raid and occupy! Hold strong and stay consolidated to overwhelm the enemy. Let’s make them regret they sailed into our playground.

It is wise to look over this year’s rules of the campaign and your role in it.  Namely, the campaign’s weekly objectives so look over them in advance and prepare to meet them when that week arrives. This year a “Discord” server has been developed for all factions. Once you signed up for our Pirate faction, information flow will happen there. Some advice on playing in the campaign; have a plan on which day you’re going to play a game. Look at that day and the deadline to make your entry into the campaign tracker. If you own both Blood & Plunder and Oak & Iron, set them up in your schedule. Post your game results with just one picture…yup just one! The more games you play, your chances increase to win prizes.

So “Raise the Black”, prepare your men, ready the guns, and keep your powder dry!

Pirate Commander Dan Carlson

Ahoy! I’m Captain Dan, also knows as the “Boyar of the Brethren”!

I’ve been the pirate commander for every Summer of Plunder except for the summer of 2023, as I was moving my fiancé down from the shivering climate of the Dakotas.

I’ve been playing Blood and Plunder since 2017-2018 and joined Blood and Pigment in 2019. I enjoy reading, wargaming (obviously), movies, cooking, shooting black powder firearms, and going to Renaissance Faires. Additionally, I host weekly games at Hero Quest Games in the DFW area of Texas. I started my wargaming “career” in 2011 with Warhammer 40k and eventually tried Bolt Action before dropping both for Plunder. On top of Plunder, I also play Blood and Valor (1st Place at the official tournament at Adepticon 2024!) and Blood and Crowns, and have published a supplement for Valor and been part of an unofficial Lord of the Rings rework of Crowns as a playtester and writer. We have lots of wonderful prizes to give away this year, and we can’t wait to have y’all pirating under the black flag!

Pirate Second-in-Command – Greg Padilla

Hello, I go by Greg or “P”…or something on those lines.

I’m a retired U.S. Air Force Military Policeman (Defender); and still work for Uncle “Sugar” today. I picked up tabletop historical gaming back in the early 90s by accident from a friend, as we exchange our hobbies; mine was model railroading and his was 15mm Naps.  Eventually I joined a local club which did nothing but game historical in 15mm.

I started gaming “Pirates” using the “Limey’s and Slimey’s” rules, but I soon outgrew them and delved into many many different Pirate game systems. Until I accidentally saw the first of eight videos from Firelock Games several years ago for their new game, “Blood & Plunder”. Having not played the rules, I was hooked and knew this was the system for me. Since then I have supported every Kickstarter for their game.

I consider myself more of a modeler than a gamer…but love doing both. I host two big games a year at my place for “Talk Like a Pirate Day” (September) and the other in November for my BIG B-Day Pirate game…which is going on its 15th year…Wow! At this event, I come up with different themes and give away a lot of prizes (booty) and make my famous “Crazy-P’s Turkey chili for each event. I also have your sons (young men) Dillon and Dan (L-R) which have been gaming since they could start walking and still game today. The pic above is our end game pic from last year’s BIG B-Day Pirate Game. I was honored to be your Pirate Commander last year, and even more so for this year as your 2nd in Command!
