The Great Pirate Paint Off is in full swing with Oak & Iron ships and Terrain being the focus for the month of February. We’re able to give away a lot of great prizes over the course of the contest with the help of lots of generous companies and individuals helping out as contest sponsors.
The midpoint of February is coming up and we’ll be giving away a prize to a random participant in both the Terrain and Oak & Iron categories. Our upcoming prize for the Oak & Iron category is brought to you by Baron of Dice! We’ll also be giving away several sets of dice from Baron of Dice at the end of the contest.
Oak & Iron Dice from Baron of Dice
The folks at Baron of Dice have partnered with Firelock Games and made special custom dice for each nation for both Oak & Iron and Blood & Plunder. They are excellent dice with national flavor cooked into each set.

On February 16th, we will be drawing one winner from the pool of people that have entered a ship in the Oak & Iron category and they will be able to choose which nationality of Oak & Iron Dice they would like.

These sets contain ten d8’s with the normal patterns of swords, pistols, muskets, cannons, and sails on 7 faces. Instead of the skull on the 8th side representing the “critical hit” result, each different set from Baron of Dice has a unique national symbol with the “CRIT” text underneath. Each nation’s set is set in a different thematic color.
- Spanish – Black and Red swirl with Burgundian Cross
- English – Red with a Royal Crown
- French – White and Gold with a Fleur de Lis
- Dutch – Orange with a Lion Rampant
- Pirate – Black with a Skull and Bones

Each set comes in a foam-lined tin for easy and safe transport and storage.

We first ran into these dice last year at Adepticon and we’ve been taken with them ever since! Not only for Oak & Iron, but for Blood & Plunder. In fact, Baron of Dice has let us carry their excellent dice in our Pigment shop!
Blood & Plunder Dice from Baron of Dice
At the end of the contest, after all entries are in at the end of April, we will be awarding the top entry from each nation a set of dice from Baron of Dice. Let’s take a look at each set of these nice d10’s.

The Blood & Plunder sets include 9 dice with a special 10 result appropriate to the nation, and then the 10th die is the “commander die” that can be used to roll for special situations like a model using a different weapon, or your Sharpshooter that needs a distinct die.

The French dice are amazing with some gold flecks mixed into a marble white.

The English dice are a bit unique in that they have a matte finish instead of glossy.

The dice are all clean and clear and easy to read.

And if you’re going to get one set, get the black Pirate dice with the classic skull and bones that’s so iconic in Blood & Plunder. The Pirate dice also have the matte finish.
Blood & Pigment Dice from Baron of Dice
Just recently we got our own custom set of Blood & Pigment dice made through Baron of Dice!

We are also giving away a set of these at the end of each month of this contest! And if you just can’t wait or count on lady luck, you can order a set of our Pigment dice right now from the Pigment Shop. We bought a bunch of these and really need to sell some!

These sets do not have the special Commander die. All 10 dice are the same marbled red with a flat finish.
Great Pirate Paint Off Prizes from Baron of Dice
In summary, here is the list of dice from Baron of Dice we are giving away for this contest:
- 1 set of Oak & Iron Dice on February 16th to a random person participating in Oak & Iron category
- 6 sets of Blood & Plunder dice at the end of the contest in early May. 1 set to the top entry from each nationality.
- 4 sets of Blood & Pigment d10’s, one to a random entry from the month at the end of every month (only eligible to win once during the contest)
Baron of Dice did not donate prizes for this contest, but they have let us order at a wholesale rate, subsidizing these prizes for this contest this year. They are also working on creating some fun stuff that you might see at some of the convention tournaments during 2026.
If you want to up your dice game, Baron of Dice makes a great product and they have done great work for the Firelock Games community! We encourage you to patronize them and pick up some of their great dice, either by entering a ton of stuff in this contest and trusting to luck, or buying some of their dice (from them or us or Firelock Games).
