Vane’s Escape from Nassau Harbor – Battle Report Video

Check out the new video up on our YouTube channel! You may have noticed a longer than normal gap in content and this is why! This was a big project to get together and we’re proud to release it today.

Charles Vane’s Escape from Nassau Harbor

One of supporters on Patreon requested a battle report featuring some multiplayer rules, so we decided to run this fun scenario which we hosted at Adepticon in 2024. The scenario is built for 6 players, with about 650 points on each side. Each player has their own force, and each player on a team activates one unit simultaneously from a single activation card played by the team’s admiral. It’s a really great way to play big group games and keep things moving.

Players include Lliam, Riley, Bryan, Ian, Brian and Don.

Here are the timestamps for the video. The historical portion took a little longer than I expected, but you got to set it all up!

The New Blood & Pigment Studio

We’ve been working at getting this new space set up for over a year, and we’re finally in it! It’s hard to get a devoted space that isn’t the kitchen counter, or a tiny, cramped area that barely holds two people. This new space allows 6-8 of us to get around a table and still have space for some light and camera.

We have an 8×4 table, a nice wooden wall background, and space for some fun flags and decorations. There’s no AC so we cooked a little (in August), and you’ll have to forgive a couple segments where we forgot to turn off the fan during a video recording.

We’re already got 2 more games recorded in our new space!

New Battle Report Format

I am shamelessly copying the battle report format used by Little Wars TV and we would appreciate feedback! Let us know if you like this format more than the long form. We’re big Little Wars fans and we’re trying to up our game! We learned some things in this effort and next will be better!

I you haven’t already, you should really check out their channel. It’s all boring Napoleonic stuff right now (that’s for you Rufus), but they’ll get back to some good stuff eventually (that’s a joke).

Multiplayer Games

This is an abreviated game with a narrative and highlights of the game, so we don’t focus too much on the multiplayer system, but we did cover a few different ways (including this one which is our favorite) in Episode 12 of the Blood & Pigment Podcast.

Charles Vane vs. Woodes Rogers

The forces are very asymmetric in this game, but so are the goals! Will Woodes Rogers put his fleet in harm’s way and risk his ships being burned by the fireship to stop the pirates’ escape? Will Vane’s shallow drafted sloops slip by the larger British warships, or just use the element of surprise to attack and take over the British fleet?

The Forces

We used two British Royal Navy forces, a British Militia force, and 3 Flying Gang forces in this scenario. You can check out the lists below:

Pirates

British

You can find the Commanders & Forces used in this battle in the Raise the Black expansion for Blood & Plunder.
