Blood & Plunder – Open Play / Competitive Events at Adepticon

Adepticon 2025 logo and Event details

We are just a few weeks away from Adepticon 2025 – March 26-30th. We are hosting a bevy of Blood & Plunder events at Adepticon including some Open Play sessions and some optional competitive scenarios for up to 4 players per table. In this article, we’ll dive into those competitive events and share the details of the scenario games.

Whether you’re fine-tuning your tournament list or just looking for a casual skirmish, dedicated tables will be available each morning from Thursday to Saturday at the same time as our demo sessions. This is your chance to test your forces, explore new strategies, and engage in a couple of fierce battles with fellow players.

What is an “Open Play Event”?

An Open Play Event is an organized but unstructured gaming session where players can freely participate in games without a strict tournament format or scheduled pairings. We are providing a dedicated space and time for attendees to play at their own pace, set up matches with other players, and try out different strategies or scenarios. Think of it as a space to play a casual pickup game with strangers or an opportunity to schedule a match with a fellow player you’ve met online. These events are also ideal for players looking to practice, experiment with new forces, or simply enjoy games in a relaxed but structured environment.

We have multiple tables reserved for “Open Play” events demo sessions each morning, Thursday through Saturday. We’ll have tables available for both land and sea games.

What is “Competitive Scenario Events”?

A Competitive Open Play Event combines the flexibility of Open Play with the structured challenge of a scenario-driven competition. Unlike casual Open Play games, these events feature preset terrain, scenario rules, and specific objectives. While competitive, they are not part of a tournament and lower-key. This allows players to engage in battles without the pressure of rankings or elimination rounds.

These events are a good alternative to narrative-driven historical events with preconstructed forces. They are perfect for players looking to hone their strategies, face off against new opponents, and enjoy their own dynamic list-building.

We’ve set the points levels for both competitive events to the same point levels as the tournaments which means you can recycle those lists and forces without extra work. Or, if you want to build a custom force, you are welcome to build your lists as you see fit.

Competitive Open Play – Sea Scenario: Flotsam & Jetsam

Amidst the treacherous Caribbean waters, a Dutch supply ship has run aground on a reef, spilling its precious cargo across the waves. Now, rival crews race to salvage what they can before the sea—or their enemies—claim the wreck’s riches. In this fast-paced, free-for-all naval scenario for up to four players, cunning captains must brave shoals, navigate shifting debris, and fend off relentless adversaries to haul in the most valuable spoils.

With the entire board covered in Deep Water, no wind to aid escape, and treacherous hazards lurking beneath the surface, this is a test of skill, strategy, and bold maneuvering. Will you strike hard and fast to seize the best cargo, or bide your time and let greed undo your rivals? The captain who claims the most cargo by the final round will be victorious.

Competitive Open Play – Land Scenario: RUM RAIDERS

A distillery brimming with barrels of fine rum hides among the dense sugarcane fields of the Caribbean—too tempting a prize for any self-respecting crew to ignore. Drawn by profit, thirst, or the thrill of chaos, rival bands of raiders race to plunder its storerooms before government reinforcements arrive

This 200-point land battle pits up to four players against one another in a race to loot the most barrels. With three liquor depots spread across the center of the battlefield, crews must strike fast, grab what they can carry, and escape before their enemies—or the effects of the rum—catch up to them. But beware—hauling stolen barrels will slow your troops, and one sip too many might leave them stumbling into disaster!

Will you play it safe and carry your spoils back to your deployment zone for full value, or risk it all in a desperate bid to snatch victory from your rivals? Choose wisely—after six rounds of mayhem, only the most successful (and sober) raider will claim victory!
