A massive wave of new minis for Blood & Plunder is coming! Firelock Games has announced a big Kickstarter project in Q1 of 2026 and we are privileged to show off some of these new minis over the coming weeks. We recently showcased the beautiful Corbeta ship that will be part of that project and a new set of sculpts for the Spanish Marineros. Today we get to take a quick look at the new English Commander model. This model really grabbed me as a remarkable sculpt and I’m eager to share it here!

New Blood & Plunder English Commander
This sculpt is to represent the “generic English Commander” in Blood & Plunder. It was created with the mid 17th century in mind (1655-1670), as that is the focus of the upcoming Kickstarter project. Although its designed to be an English model, it could be used as a commander for other nations in Blood & Plunder as well!

I love the 17th century long coat and styling!

English Commander Sculpt
I think Emily and Daniel, the Firelock sculptors, are really knocking it out of the park with these new models. This guy is awesome!

This is one of the first minis to grab my attention when I got a set of the new minis to preview.

The sculpt is detailed, clean and awesome, like we’ve come to expect from the new Firelock line of resin minis. I didn’t really have to do much cleanup at all before basing, priming and painting this model. There was some slight oddities on the edge of the left side of his jacket. I don’t know if it’s supposed to be wear on the coat, or a printing issue in the prototype run.

Check out the detail on that sword!

And those feathers!
This isn’t a “production mini,” so it might get tweaked a bit before they are sold, but I felt this model was a touch on the larger side. He’s a pretty tall fellow! There’s some variation in human size and in the range of Blood & Plunder minis, but this mini is on the bigger side of the range. Check images at the end of this article for a comparison with other English Commander models.
Painting the English Commander

I used a lot of colors from the Monument Hobbies Blood & Plunder paint set. I particularly enjoyed the reds in the set on this model.
I did use a lot of red! I based my paint scheme on this image from the Armies of Early Colonial North America: 1607-1713.

This is a nice little book for color inspiration when painting these minis.

Here’s some shots all around this fancy Englishman.

I used the darker red for his waistcoat and the lighter red for the coat, but by the time I did wash and highlights, its difficult to tell that they’re actually different colors.

I used Vallejo paints for all the metallics.
The Blood & Plunder English Commander Range
We’re getting a great selection of English Commanders! There’s the original Buccaneer Commander, the “online exclusive” Commander, the 18th Century generic Commander, and all the Legendary English Commanders!

Here’s the new commander with all the other English Commanders:

The English Commander with ANOTHER English Commander!
Here’s a little sneak peak within this sneak peak! The 2026 Kickstarter project will include a new expansion book, including a new Legendary English Commander! Sir Christopher Myngs has been long-needed in this game, and he’s on his way! Watch for a full preview post on him soon!

Final Thoughts
We’re liking these new minis! In fact, pretty much all the recent sculpts coming from Firelock Games have been really great! Here’s a lineup of a bunch of the recent models I’ve painted this last year:

The guys here at Blood & Pigment are eagerly looking forward to that Blood & Plunder Kickstarter next year! Mark your calendars for sometime in the first quarter! You’re not going to want to miss this great new English Commander, or all the other great minis that will be coming at us!
