With the “Pigment Studio” up and running, we have the opportunity to make some rules videos to help out players just getting into the game. We made a basic “Quick Start Rules Guide” video for land games two years ago, and it’s one of our most watched videos! Today we’re continuing that series with a quick video on basic rules for moving your ship in Blood & Plunder.
In this video we quickly cover the basics for getting your ship on the table and moving it around in your first sea game of Blood & Plunder.
This all comes out of Chapter 8 of the Blood & Plunder rulebook, but we’re really covering the basics here as a quick start guide.

This video can help you get a good grasp on:
- Ship Stat Card
- Points of the Wind
- When to Move Your Ship
- How Far to Move Your Ship
- How to Turn
- Moving Fast
- Moving Slow
This really shouldn’t replace reading the rulebook, but if you learn well watching examples, or just need a quick run down of the basics, this should be able to get you going in just a few minutes!

You can jump to different topics covered in the video through time stamps:
00:12 – Intro
00:58 – Ship Stat Card
02:46 – When To Move Your Ship
04:07 – How Does a Ship Move
04:36 – Wind Speed & Direction
05:43 – Example 1
06:15 – Sails and Spars Critical Damage
6:48 – Points of Sail in Relation to the Wind
8:57 – Slow Example
9:22 – Exceeding Top Speed Example
10:36 – Turning
11:54 – Summary
Rules Video Series
We hope these videos can be helpful. We’re still getting down the process of making solid instructional materials, so feedback is helpful! We already have our “Advanced Maneuvers” video edited and almost ready for release as well! If there’s a portion of the rules that you would like covered soon, let us know and we’ll try to get it done!

Nicley laid out article and video for finding information. The Blood and Pigment team has a lot of great information about Blood and Plunder. As someone looking to get into this game, I have spent a lot of time on your site. Keep up the excellent work. A suggestion for a future article/video would be on the proper mechanics for utilizing the Broadside skill. I have read the rules, errata and FAQs, and think I have figured it out. But if Firelock were to add an example of using Broadside to the rules it would be clearer.
