A Tale of Rebellion and Revolt…

The new settlement, little more than fledgling outpost carved into the edge of the New World—is still struggling to gain its footing. Its sugarcane fields, barely halfway through their first harvest. The storehouses half-stocked, the settlers still learning the rhythm of survival. This was meant to be a foothold of prosperity—until the sails appeared on the horizon.

The attack came swift and brutal. A raiding party—silent, coordinated, merciless—descended on on the region without warning. Fires lit the shoreline and the cannons roared. The colonial militia faltered, outnumbered and ill-equipped. In desperation, the governors turned to those with the most to gain: the enslaved. Offering liberty in exchange for mutual aide in the colony’s defense. With musket and machete, they answered—not for love of their masters, but for the promise of freedom.

By sheer force and fury, the raid was repelled. The attackers withdrew, licking wounds. Before retreating, the raider commander hurled anominous warning across the bay: “You have bought time with blood, but you will not buy mercy. We return, next time with fire, and none shall survive—not man, not house, not child nor those in chain.”

But victory did not bring peace or the freedom sworn. The governor’s promise made in panic was soon swept aside and suppressed. His vow was rejected by the landholders who refused to give up their resources. As the smoke cleared and the enemy retreated, the chains were replaced. Liberty was denied.

In the days that followed, terror begin to take root—every shadow a threat, every dawn brought the possibility of attack closer. But for those held in bondage, the words stirred something more than fear. They had fought for this settlement once, with the promise of freedom. But that hope was a lie. Now, facing slaughter or servitude, they would choose neither.

Among the colonists, panic simmers. Among the enslaved, fury boils. Betrayal bred new found resolve. Fear began to slip into defiance. A rebellion brews in the heart of the settlement, fueled by the looming shadow of annihilation.

As rumors multiply and shadows stretch long, a decision is made—not by the governor or landholders, but by those who will no longer bend the knee in fear

The dawn of revolt erupts. Smoke curls from the governor’s manor. Guard posts are overwhelmed. The enslaved rise not just in anger, but with purpose—to flee, to survive, to burn what once bound them. The cane fields, symbols of their labor, now blaze with the fire of their defiance. The outpost born of ambition and lure of wealth now threatens to collapse into chaos.

The governor makes one final proclamation:

To all overseers, and loyal citizens: our defenses have faltered not for lack of valor, nor by the strength of your will, but strength of will is not enough for our survival. The settlement stands compromised. Our enemy has vowed our destruction, and the uprising within leaves no ground secure. By my authority, I order an immediate and organized retreat.

Gather what provisions you may, and bring them to the docks with all haste, that we might abandon this post without delay. Protect the innocent. Assist the willing. But make no stand—all of not the utmost importance must be left behind. Let the sea and jungle reclaim what we could not hold. We retreat not in disgrace, but in preservation, to one day rebuild where soil and spirit are stronger.

Let ring the bells and spread the word with riders at all haste. We leave in the ninth hour May God grant us mercy and grace.
