Firelock Games recently released a set of new Character miniatures and they’re awesome! The Boatswain (or “Bosun”) mini is particularly impressive and we couldn’t wait to paint up and share some pics to raise some awareness of this new stealth release.

Check out this beast of a guy!

He’s powerfully built, a shiny pate, a manly beard, and a barrel of a chest!

He’s carrying one pistol, a bosun’s whistle around his neck, and a knotted rope, or “bosun’s persuader,” over his shoulder.

He has a ragged but high-class coat, and he’s tough enough to not need shoes!

This Bosun mini is part of a new set of Character minis including a Standard Bearer, Drummer, Sharp-Eyed Lookout, and a Cook. This release goes a long way in filling in the needed minis for playable Blood & Plunder characters!

These minis retail for $10 each. There are a couple more character minis in the works as well, and there maybe a rumor of a Character Pack which contains several of these new sculpts at a bit of a discount.

Boatswain Character Stats and Rules

The Boatswain is a new and interesting character that helps out with a part of sea combat that can be very important, but isn’t high profile. He helps your crew keep your ship running, especially in cases of disaster.

The Boatswain can join any Nation/Faction, but he must join to a unit that has the Sailors or Expert Sailors Special Rule. If the attached unit didn’t already have the Expert Sailors Special Rule, the Boatswain grants it along with the little combat perk of Brawlers (exploding 10s in melee). With a Command Range of 4″, the Boatswain can use his single Command Point on pretty much any deck of almost any ship. The Boatswain’s Command Point can only give Assign or Abandon actions.
