New Resin Models for Blood & Plunder and the Return of Henry Morgan

Firelock Games has released another huge batch of the main line of Blood & Plunder miniatures in their new resin material! The Spanish and French were released in resin in late 2023 and now, without enough fanfare, both the English and Dutch models have been released on the Firelock Games website.

While I have always loved the weighty metal miniatures for Blood & Plunder, I’m happy with this move to offer a resin option for several reasons:

  • It’s cheaper
  • They are highly detailed
  • Less cleaning before painting
  • Manufacturing is more reliable and consistent
  • It’s easier for Firelock to bring new units into the game with this medium

We have received, inspected, painted and played with these new resin models and we have all been consistently impressed. You can check out further opinions, discussion and close up pictures of these resin minis here and here.

English & Dutch Resin Models

The entire line of Dutch and English models are now available in resin. This includes the National Starter Boxes, the Legendary Commanders the Standard Commanders and all the various units that have been produced in metals.

Unit packs of 4 models are $18 for resin while remaining at $24 for metal. The National Starter Box, including 25 models (6 units and a commander) sells for $99 in the resin (discount of more than $10).

New Provincial Model

Along with this re released of old models, Firelock Games released a (sort of) new model that I think will prove very useful and versatile: The Provincial. This unit is really a rerelease of the metal Soldier model, but the sculpt has been updated in a few ways, including swapping out the Matchlock Musket for a Firelock Musket, making it more useful for late 17th and 18th century timeframes.

Other small parts of the sculpt have been slightly updated as well. These models can be used as the English Provincial unit in Fire on the Frontier and Raise the Black, but they can also be mixed in as various militia units, soldiers, and any other dude with a respectable jacket and firelock musket. Really great, useful unit!

The Return of Victorious Henry Morgan

For a limited time, Firelock Games is offering a FREE copy of the alternate sculpt of Henry Morgan, only offered in the original Kickstarter more than 7 years ago. This mini has been impossible to find for years! This sculpt of Morgan has more sass and attitude, with his foot resting firmly on a Spanish morian helmet. Any order of $100 or more will receive a free sassy Morgan model.

Final Thoughts

It’s exciting to see new developments in the world of Blood & Plunder. A move towards a quality, but more affordable medium for their flagship miniatures is exciting, as is the easier release of more models. In the last few weeks Firelock has released, the Compagnies Franches de la Marine, Iberville Commander, a new Flibustier miniature, and the new Provincial model. That’s more new models than the previous 12 months!

If you have all your minis from your 2 player starter box assembled and want to pick up some more Blood & Plunder miniatures that have a little more national flavor, do yourself a favor and get some of these resin miniatures. They are beautiful minis, easy to work with, nice and sturdy, don’t requires assembly, paint up well, and look great on the table. You don’t want to miss that Morgan mini!

It sounds like we should be seeing the Unaligned and Native models (including a North American Native Nation Box) release in February!

  1. Man, I really don’t *need* any new models, but that Morgan sculpt is seriously making me consider buying more B&P 😬
