Merry Christmas! We hope you’re enjoying this Christmas season, hopefully flavored with a little plunder! I’ve got some painting in around the busy holiday schedule and I’ve finished up my first unit of the new resin Blood & Plunder miniatures. We have some pictures of some painted Spanish Marineros to share.

You can see the unpainted metal and resin miniatures compared in this article.
Overall Quality and Painting Experience
Overall the prep and painting process for these new resin miniatures was smooth and easy. I really appreciated the cleaner details on places like faces, pistols and hands. The poses are slightly more dynamic than the original metals. One drawback is that there are small print line layers you can see while working up close.

Starting out as a Spanish player right after the first Blood & Plunder Kickstarter campaign, I’ve been painting these Marinero sculpts for a long time! You can find a detailed painting guide for these Spanish sailors here on Blood & Pigment from all the way back in 2018! It’s still a good painting guide!
Resin and Metal Marineros Side-by-Side
Here are some shots of painted metal models next to new painted resin models.

This shirtless model is considerably different with arms more spread than the metal casting. (Resin on the L, metal on the R)

This second model is hardly changed but the face and pistol are much clearer and the angle of the sword hand is slightly different. (Resin on the L, metal on the R)

This third sculpt is largely the same but the resin mini seems a little larger overall. The axe is redesigned as well. (Resin on the L, metal on the R)

There were no substantial differences that I could perceive in this last sculpt. Detail was better on face, pistol and sword. This resin model did have some weird lines running across the body that weren’t great. (Resin on the L, metal on the R)
Detail & Print Layer Lines
Detail is incredibly sharp and crisp, but when using a macro camera lens, you can see small layer lines.

Eyes and facial hair were much easier to paint than older metals.

At this magnification, you can see some layer lines not visible in the previous photo.

At at this close you can see layer lines.

Very clean mini.

A little closer. Love the hair texture.

And you can see layers again at this magnification.

These Spaniards have great sideburns!

My mustache lines got a little sloppy on this guy!

Final Thoughts
These are great minis and I’m thrilled to see Firelock re-releasing these great sculpts in a less expensive and more detailed material. I still like the heft and sturdiness of metals, but I’m willing to take lighter for better price and sharper minis.

As of Friday, 12/22, the entire line of Spanish miniature for Blood & Plunder are available, including a brand new set of sculpts for the Corsarios!

Can’t wait to get some of these new minis to paint up!

These were not final products and I’m assuming this sculpt was fixed. Those lines are pretty severe.

I’ve got more of these resin minis on my table to paint (and more in the mail!) and we will be sharing more as we’re able!

Thanks for reading!
