While we don’t know a great deal about her, Anne Bonny (Bonney) was one of the most infamous female pirates in history.  In August 1720 Anne abandoned her husband and assisted John “Calico Jack” Rackham in stealing a sloop named William from Nassau Harbour in New Providence. Along with a dozen others, the pair began pirating merchant vessels along the coast of Jamaica.

Her career in piracy was short-lived however as she was captured only 4 months later.  Though she was found guilty and sentenced to death, won a stay of execution due to her pregnancy.   Bonny was later released, likely because of her father’s wealth and influence.  She later returned to Charles Towne, where she married, had children, and lived out the remainder of her life.
